Cloaking Device
A cloaking device is a device that allows a ship to enter space unseen by sensors of the enemy. Generally, cloaks are used by the Romulans, and are very effective against being seen. Most cloking devices are power hungry, and therefore are not used for long periods of time.
An experimental phasing cloak was used by the United Federation of Planets on the Oberth-class U.S.S. Peagasus, which malfunctioned and sent the ship into the Devolin system, where it de-cloaked into a large asteroid. More information about the phasing cloak is available here.
