The technology used and/or encountered in Star Trek is almost all based on real factual machines and theories, such as E=MC2. There has been experimenting to create a tri-corder, and there has been a prototype that read peoples blood pressure, body temperature, and gender. Some of the equipment that seemed futuristic at the time the original series of Star Trek were being shown, have now been invented and are a part of daily life. Example is "voice commanded" computers.
